Twitter seems to be the social media platform of choice for businesses who want to update people on what’s happening and get their voices heard, so this seemed perfect for our Low Carbon Deviants project. However, there are issues, such as getting a foot in the door! Twitter is alive and buzzing with millions of people talking about what they are doing and what they think and it can be hard to stand out from the crowd.

So to try and develop a presence, we are following all of those who are relevant to us, such as Green Suffolk, past champions, and those in cohort one. Also, we have to go that bit further and snowball contacts, by following people who are followed by those we are following (it gets a bit convoluted). Following people is good for us to hear what they’re up to, but for them to hear us, they need to follow us, and this is an entirely new hurdle.
Getting people to follow you can be tricky, I am currently trying to tweet things relevant to those who we want to follow us, using appropriate ‘hastags’, as well as tweeting at and retweeting people in a bid to grab their attention. I have read it is important to tweet at least once or twice a day (but not too much as too annoy people!), so this may go well with tweeting the daily blog and some more info. Let’s hope this works, as the bigger online presence we have, the easier it will be to get people involved! Click to follow us on twitter.
What do you think? Are you a tweeter?
