We first encountered the ‘Fun Skills Winning’ mantra about twenty years ago. It was written in large letters in the front of The Australian Schools Cricket Handbook which clearly stated this was the order you MUST follow to have any chance of recruiting and retaining young people.
So that’s how how this online community is structured. Making carbon measurement, offsetting and reduction fun might seem a challenge but it’s not. If you give young people enough space and incentive, they do it for themselves. That’s what gamification as a tool of behavioural change is all about.
The four pages of this site map to the four phases of game design. This home page (discovery) provides an introduction and incentive to do more. Fun (onboarding) provides membership, group and networking features. Skills (scaffolding) provides champions with the basic skills they need to deliver MOR for their club. Winning (endgame) confirms achievements at both club and champion level.
