Another interesting chart is Claydon Court energy emissions. These are steadily falling as the national grid uses more renewables – a rare bit of good news. We offset with World Land Trust (WLT) whose price has remained stable since 2012 at £15 per tonne of carbon.

This is reasonable as local options e.g. Woodland Trust charge £25 per tonne for the same service. The WLT price is better value as they secure their natural capital overseas where land prices are lowest and biodiversity gain is biggest.

Claydon Court purchases its electricity from Ecotricity which is 100% renewable. In theory we shouldn’t have to pay an offset but we do for lengthy and complex reasons explained earlier. This is a policy we might review in our quest for net zero.
