Carbon Centurions launched on Friday 2 July, when a team of players representing clubs supporting the initiative played a team from Eight Ash Green, the world’s first Carbon Balanced cricket club.  The project is sponsored by Neutral Territory and to our knowledge this is the first game of its type anywhere in the world.

The Carbon Centurions XI picture shows players representing Cirencester, Coggeshall, Copford, West Bergholt, Kelvedon & Feering, Colchester & East Essex, Old Chelmsfordians, Eastons, Dulwich Lawnmower, Bicester & North Oxford and East Rainton cricket clubs.  The majority of the clubs are local to minimise travel, but the game attracted interest from Cirencester in the south west to East Rainton in the north east.

Fittingly, the game was played in the new ‘The Hundred’ format.  “It worked really well,” enthused Carbon Centurions’ captain Andrew Woodhouse from Dulwich Lawnmower CC, “varying the length of overs took some getting used to but we sussed it out and won in the 95^th ball.  It was a great game!”
