How wise is the crowd? The wisest on reducing businesses CO2 is surely the current carbon champions but it seems there is a very uneven spread of which sector these champions are in 62% being within education, health and tourism, and retail to customer and other direct services (LCC Evaluation report).
This tells me 2 things
- We need to target those who haven’t been targeted yet, the manufacturing, processing and agricultural sectors only making up 15% of LCC cohort.
- This may be a hard task they didn’t jump on the band wagon first time why should why now?
- Need to find some companies in these sectors who can give advice to our cohort as this group of people are limited. Tah- da I give you Langage farm in Devon they have solar panels on their milking parlour. This is too large of a business for our cohort to relate to but is a start!
- This may be a hard task they didn’t jump on the band wagon first time why should why now?
- Secondly why aren’t these sectors skipping down the road of carbon Neutrality? What are their barriers and what do they think will help them overcome these barriers, it is their sector and their businesses after all they are our wise crowd!
- Within the other 23% of the LCC scheme are office based and professional business. Why is this low?
- Potentially it could be due to people not looking or being aware that there are Solicitors, PR companies and such like who are trying to do their bit for the environment.
- A quick scan on Stridents website hasn’t told me that they have gold carbon Charter
- Nor do Ashton KCJ(Silver Carbon Charter) who have done massive amounts of work to their water front offices in Ipswich to reduce the energy needed to heat it. Amazingly however there is no information about this on their website so this work isn’t a selling point within their businesses?

Seems no matter how wise the businesses are is if there isn’t a market for low carbon then it won’t be advertised leading to carbon not being reduced in businesses which is sadly the current situation. As part of LCD should there be compulsory promotion of reduced CO2 as this will start making consumers aware that it’s not just ethical tea and jumpers but hard drives, software and solicitors to.
