Technology has a big part to play in scaling up an initiative like this.  Most of our software is open source which means it is free and available to all.  This means we can develop applications quickly and cheaply.  It also resonates with our vision and values.  We have two main platforms …

Our first platform is our carbon community.  We use BuddyBoss to provide the membership, groups, communications and activities needed to collaborate digitally.  We use plugins like AnsPress for discussions, and LearnDash to provide our Learning Management System.

Our second platform is our carbon calculator. This is bespoke and written in PHP and Laravel.  The good news is this provides champions and their clubs with a three-dimensional carbon plan free of charge.  The bad news is they get it whether you want it or not, making it difficult not to take action!

Both are pilot versions to start with. If Carbon Champions gets bigger we will develop a native apps that combines both applications.
