Cricket is the sport most affected by climate change, so it’s fortunate we make the cricket community our top priority.  That’s as much luck as judgement: it’s a sport we’ve supported and played for many years and happened to be in the right place at the right time.

We usefully employed a group of players from Eight Ash Green Cricket Club (EAGCC) as interns back in 2013-14.  They fine-tuned our simple Measure, Offset Reduce model for cricket to help their club become the world’s first carbon balanced cricket club. *

England star Reece Topley kindly came to present the award.  EAGCC has continued to offset its emissions and has diversified its efforts to include sustainability, rewilding and community capital. 

* EAGCC is ‘carbon balanced’ rather than ‘carbon neutral’ as offsetting is achieved through WLT’s Carbon Balance programme. This approach relies on voluntary disclosure by members rather than technical audit by consultants. This difference might matter elsewhere but not in amateur cricket.
