Start of audits

We have eight organisations in Cohort 1.  A purposive sample chosen from Claydon Court tenants and other known organisations – perfectly acceptable for case study research like this where we are deliberately seeking to test ideas.

We are engaging with individuals (through personal goodwill) and society (through promotion of the Suffolk Carbon Charter) but not organisations.  Focus from audits is essentially cutting carbon from existing activities rather than transformative ideas.  Whilst this may cut costs and provide CSR marketing activities it doesn’t address any fundamental core activities.

Of the four original pillars of the LCC only one has been deployed so far – the audit.  Several online versions were examined but it was decided to use the World Land Trust off-line questionnaire with expert assessment to provide a benchmark against which to measure on-line versions.  It was felt that none were sufficiently enticing for the ‘lukewarm’ prospects to attempt them unsupervised.  Complicated, poorly structured and jargon-heavy these are written by technical people seeking to interrogate quantitative data rather than encourage qualitative responses.

Actions are yet to be identified and without a grant it will be difficult to pump-prime investments unless the business benefits are compelling and affordable (and not necessarily in that order).
