Neutral Territory is delighted to renew its long association with the University of East Anglia (UEA) for our next set of our adventures. We have some exciting work ready to launch in March and need bright young people to help.

This work will build on that done by previous UEA interns.  This used a Low Carbon Champions model to widen the adoption of low-carbon behaviour in Suffolk SMEs.  It had mixed success due partly to limited awareness of the problem.  

We aim to reinvigorate the idea by shifting the focus to Carbon COMMUNITIES.  This is not simply semantics, but a recognition that both technology (social media) and targets (young people) have transformed the ability to engineer change at the ground level.  

This project aims to prove this point by working with amateur cricket clubs.  Why? Well because one case from our earlier cohorts – Eight Ash Green CC – is, and remains, the world’s first carbon neutral cricket club.   

It does this by measuring, balancing and reducing carbon emissions with the help of the amazing World Land Trust.  Their Carbon Balancing programme allows ANY organisation to offset its carbon to help save the world’s most precious natural resources.  

So, why doesn’t EVERY cricket club do this?  Lots of possibilities, but what’s clear is that a top down approach isn’t working in cricket, in sport or anywhere else for that matter. That’s why our approach uses ideas from Positive Deviance to work from the bottom up.
